One lure has quickly became my go-to lure when fishing canals and other man-made structure where bream congregate. This lure is the Atomic Plazo 2inch Prong, in colour white. This particular plastic is beginning to accumulate bream victims incredibly quick!
Canal-dwelling bream love little more than bread and other food scraps. This is often seen as residents living on canals can be seen feeding schools of ravenous bream from their pontoons on their back doorstep, with the water almost erupting as the fish fight over the food. The small profile of the 2inch prong combined with the white colour fools these cunning bream into thinking it is a piece of bream or other food as they engulf it without much hesitation.
The Atomic 2 inch Prong is best rigged weightless on a Gamakatsu RB90 jighead in canals with little wind and current, whereas the size 2 Atomic seekers HWS 1/24thoz jighead is better suited when wind or current is present. When using the weightless option, long casts must be made as close to the desired structure without hitting it. Shady sides of pontoons, over hanging trees, etc are ideal places to target and no action is required. Just be patient, as bream may sit under/inspect the lure for quite some time before actually committing to the strike. When using the 1/24thoz weight in tide-affected areas, casting up current from pontoons and allowing the plastic to waft down under the plastic provides the best results, as bream will usually hang under the belly of the pontoon waiting for an opportunistic feed.
One extra that I have found just adds to the potency of this plastic when fishing the canals is Megastrike Garlic scent. Even though the Atomic Prong has some scent of its own the powerful garlic scent seems to fire the bream up to strike without any hesitations.
Get out there, start throwing your Atomic Plazo 2inch Prongs around and see how awesome they really are!
