Jointed or swimming nymph by Tom Deer
This fly is best used in a stream where the current adds movement to the fly, although it also works in still water.
I use any cheap hook to make the tail component because the point is cut off and not used in the hooking of a fish. Its attached to the main hook with braid or lite mono line. Note that the dubbing is wound all the way to the eye of the hook as there is no need to leave space for a head to be built up.
To the main hook I sometimes place a small piece of lead to help get the fly down deeper but don’t forget to coat the lead with some varnish to prevent the lead tarnishing the body material.
Hook- Gamakatsu S10-2S size 16 to 10, also a cheap hook, preferably with straight eye is used for the tail.
