Highland Dun (dry) (my version)
This is my favourite pattern for Penstock Lagoon, although it has also worked for me in many other locations.
Start 1/3 back from eye of hook to allow plenty of room for wing, hackle and head.
Make bulbous mound of thread near bend to splay tail fibres.
Fold wing over, throw a loop over and pull down tight.
The wing is cut to look a bit like an emerger, if you want you can cut a V in bottom of hackles to get the fly to sit lower in the water.
Three coats nail varnish head.
Hook- Gamakatsu S10-3F size 12 to 10
Thread- Chocolate brown
Body- choc brown antron dubbing
Rib- Madeira jewel 525
Tail- Cock pheasant tail
Wing- Cock pheasant tail (side feathers)
Hackle- Furnace cock
