Foam Beetle (dry) (my version)
This is a great fly that has several important components, quick and easy to tie, materials readily available, robust, imitates more than one food source, & CATCHES FISH.
Beetles are an important food source for Australian fresh water fish and this fly is the perfect imitation of a beetle that will fool any trout. It lands on the water hard, sits low, and has the trigger of a tag of tinsel which replicates an air bubble caused by a beetle folding down its hard wing case.
But this fly has also worked well for me at Dee Lagoon when the big rainbows are feeding on floating snail.
